WizKid, born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun is a Nigerian artist who began his singing career at the age of 11 years. He came to the limelight in 2010 with his hit Holla at Your Boy that was part of his Superstar album. Wizkid went on to release Don’t Dull, Oluwa Lo Ni, Pakurumo, Tease Me/Bad Guys, and Love My Baby in 2011 for the same album.

February 2014 was a good month for WizKid as he made it as the first Nigerian singer with a following of over one million on Twitter. In September the same year, he went on to release the six singles album, Ayo that is not only self-titled but also inspirational.

Ayo might have just been WidKid’s breakthrough into the international music scene. The album features his singles Jaiye Jaiye, One Question, Bombay, Joy, On Top Your Matter, and Show You the Money. Jaiye Jaiye features the famous Femi Kuti who brings out the Afrobeat style and this makes the song a top track on many platforms. A Show Me the Money remix followed up with Tyga in 2014.

WizKid’s excellent collaborative work is evidenced by the many tracks featuring award-winning artists like Drake in Come Closer and Chris Brown in African Bad Gyal. These songs are energetic hence the hype among the younger generation. Come Closer was the number one hit on the Hot 100 Billboard chart in 2016. Drake’s fascination with WizKid’s work began when he released Ojuelegba that had such awesome sounds that he did a cover.

WidKid also has top tier collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign in Dirty Wine and One For Me, Akon in For You, and Major Lazer in Naughty Ride. Tease Me is a freestyle party song that appeals to many hence its many YouTube views.

Besides enjoying the African landscape and resources, WizKid also exploits his international exposure to attract a larger fan base. His hit Daddy Yo was shot in the U.K and the U.S hence its many views on YouTube. Caro, which features L.A.X has been around for a while, but one cannot deny its phenomenal beats.

WizKid now enjoys global pop stardom with his notable solo singles and features. WizKid has taken home three Billboard Music Awards along with a BET Award being the top African artist he is.

One thing that makes WizKid standout is his creative hooks and beautiful sounds that are soothing to the listener. Other than his talent, WizKid also features top performing producers who help hold down the jam vibe.
